Why is Krispy Kreme (DNUT) stock moving?

Krispy Kreme jumped about 30% on Nov 5, from $3.52 to $4.60, on volume of about 29M shares. That is roughly 7x the recent daily average, and the stock had already risen from about $2.82 in late October. The trigger was Q3 results. Revenue of $328.8M beat estimates, and adjusted EPS was $0.06 against $0.01 a year earlier. Full-year revenue guidance rose to $1.35B-$1.40B, though that range is roughly in line with consensus. Net leverage fell to 5.5x, capex is down 65%, and franchisees now generate 42% of systemwide sales. Several weak points remain. Reported revenue fell 12.4% because of refranchising, systemwide sales grew only 1%, and the GAAP loss of $0.08 per share was worse than expected. Free cash flow was still negative at $10M year to date, and leverage is high. The average analyst target of $4.17 sits below the current price, and the consensus is Hold. Short interest is about 11% of float, so some of the move may have come from short covering. After a gain this large on very heavy volume, the stock could be volatile or give back part of it in the near term. The turnaround story is improving, but the balance sheet is still stretched.
