Why is DTE Energy (DTE) stock moving?

DTE reported Q3 operating EPS of $2.30, ahead of the roughly $2.10-$2.17 consensus and up from $2.25 a year ago. It kept 2026 guidance at $7.59-$7.73 and announced a roughly $3B sale of its non-utility Vantage business, expected to close in H1 2027. It also reaffirmed about $44B of utility capital investment over five years, tied partly to data center demand, and raised the dividend to $1.245 per share. The stock rose from about $129 in mid-October to a $137.53 close on Nov 4, on volume of 41,791, well above the recent 20-30K range. Premarket reports on Nov 5 pointed to a dip of about 2% as investors took profits, and the stock is now above its 50-day average of about $130 but below its 200-day average of about $141. Analyst targets have been trimmed (Barclays $135, Jefferies $152), though the majority of ratings are Buy. The Vantage sale simplifies the business into a regulated utility, but it also removes a segment that boosted Q2 results. Utility segment weakness earlier in 2026 and a recent run-up are the main risks.
