Why is Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (VOO) stock moving?

VOO fell 4.37% on Nov 5 to $673.97, its lowest close in the 30-day data. The day's range was 673.55 to 704.10, and volume was about 19.0M shares, roughly three times the recent 5-7M average. The drop reversed the Nov 4 post-midterm rally. It was the S&P 500's worst day since April 2025, with information technology down 7.3% and all 11 sectors lower. The trigger was fear of slowing AI and data-center spending, which hit chip names hard. Concentration in a few mega-caps amplified the fall. On Nov 6 the picture was mixed. The Nasdaq bounced about 1.5%, and VOO was indicated slightly higher premarket at $675.65. A strong jobs report (+165K) lifted yields and capped gains. VOO is now about 6% below its Oct 6 high of $718.47. History after extreme one-day moves has mostly been positive over the following month, and the post-midterm record is favorable. Near-term volatility is likely to stay high after a capitulation-style session, and the chip-led drawdown may not be finished. Medium- and long-term evidence leans moderately positive.
