Why is Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF (VTI) stock moving?

VTI fell 4.35% on Nov 5, from $376.92 to $360.52. Volume was about 10.2M shares, roughly 3x the recent daily average, and the low was $360.30. That was its worst day in the 30-day window. The cause was an AI-driven rout in chips and data-center stocks, which erased a post-election rally. The S&P 500 fell 4.4% and the Nasdaq Composite fell 5.5%, into correction territory. Reports pointed to worries that Big Tech capex growth may peak, plus weak Qualcomm sales. Because the fund is cap-weighted, with NVIDIA, Apple and Microsoft leading its top 10 (32% of assets), it is exposed to this concentration. After-hours quotes were slightly higher, and early Friday futures and index moves were mixed to modestly positive. VTI now sits about 6% below its Aug 13 high of $385.12 and well above its March low of $310.40. Near-term volatility is likely to stay high. Nvidia earnings and the AI capex narrative are the next signals. Broad diversification, a 0.03% fee and a 12.5% one-year return support the longer-term case.
