How to Connect Claude to Stock Market Research via MCP
Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code or Codex to moneyheap's MCP server and ask about your watchlist's sentiment, confidence and news, step by step.
You can connect Claude to moneyheap in about two minutes: add https://moneyheap.ai/mcp as a custom connector, sign in to moneyheap and click Allow. Connecting AI apps is part of moneyheap Pro.
Claude can then read your moneyheap portfolio and moneyheap’s analysis of each asset: the sentiment for each time horizon, how confident each read is, and the reasoning and news behind it. You ask questions in chat, and Claude answers from that research. The same server works with ChatGPT, Claude Code and Codex.
What does moneyheap’s MCP server give Claude?
It gives Claude five read-only tools: your portfolio, the latest analysis of each asset, how its sentiment has moved, recent market-moving stories, and the day’s Daily Edition. Claude can’t change your portfolio or your account, and it doesn’t get raw price feeds.
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the open standard Claude and other AI apps use to call outside tools. moneyheap runs an MCP server on its own domain, and these are the tools it offers:
| Tool | What Claude gets back |
|---|---|
list_portfolio | Every asset in your portfolio, with its latest sentiment per time horizon and when it was analyzed. Assets without an analysis yet are marked as such. |
get_asset_analysis | One asset’s latest analysis: the written summary, sentiment, confidence and reasoning per horizon, the news it drew on (with links), and its last 10 sentiment readings. |
get_sentiment_history | The sentiment score of each stored analysis of one asset, oldest first, per horizon, with its confidence for newer analyses. |
get_market_news | Up to 25 recent market-moving stories moneyheap has analyzed, newest first, each drawn from every outlet that covered it: the headline, why it matters, a summary, the overall tone, the moves reported, how important it is, each outlet’s article with a link, and the tickers it touches, marked as the story’s subject or exposed to it, with the likely impact on each. Give it a ticker to get only the stories that touch it. |
get_daily_edition | The Daily Edition for a market day, the latest by default. First a short overview: the Daily Standout, the other stocks that stood out, the day’s biggest movers and the top trending stocks, each with why. Claude can then ask for one part in full: the Daily Standout’s analysis with the evidence for and against, the other stocks’ analyses and how they were picked, the movers with sources, or every trending stock with its signals. |
A few terms you’ll see in the answers:
- Sentiment score: 0 is very bearish, 100 very bullish. It is a model’s read of news, market data, fundamentals and technicals at one point in time, not a probability that the price goes up.
- Horizons: short (about 7 days), middle (1 to 3 months) and long (about 6 months). The three often disagree, and that disagreement is useful.
- Confidence: low, mid or high, plus a percentage. It measures how strong and consistent the evidence is, not the chance that the read proves right. A bullish read with low confidence says something different from the same read with high confidence.
How moneyheap analyzes the market explains what each band of the score and the confidence means.
Every tool response also carries a short notice that the output is informational research, not financial advice, and the server tells the AI app to present it that way.
What it doesn’t do: it doesn’t stream live quotes, options chains or order books, and it can’t place trades. If you need tick-level prices, a raw market data server is the right tool, and you can connect both. moneyheap’s server is the analysis layer on top: what changed, why it matters and how confident the read is.
What do you need before you connect?
You need a moneyheap account with a confirmed email address, a Pro plan, a few assets in your portfolio, and an AI app that supports remote MCP servers with sign-in. Guest sessions can’t connect an app.
- An account with a confirmed email. If you haven’t confirmed it, the consent page asks you to do that first.
- moneyheap Pro. Connecting AI apps is part of Pro. On the Free plan, the consent page shows a “See Pro plans” button where Allow would be; after you upgrade, come back to the same page and allow the connection.
- Assets in your portfolio. The tools read moneyheap’s analysis, so add the tickers you follow first. If you ask about a ticker moneyheap hasn’t analyzed yet, the tool says so, and adding it to your portfolio starts an analysis.
- An MCP client. On Pro, the Connected apps section of Settings has setup steps for Claude (web and desktop), ChatGPT, Claude Code and Codex. On Free, it shows “See Pro plans” instead.
The server address is https://moneyheap.ai/mcp. The Connected apps section shows it with a copy button.
How do you connect Claude on the web or desktop?
In Claude, open Settings, then Connectors, click “Add custom connector”, paste https://moneyheap.ai/mcp, then sign in to moneyheap in the window that opens and click Allow.
Step by step:
- Open Settings and go to Connectors.
- Click Add custom connector. Give it a name you’ll recognize, such as “moneyheap”.
- Paste the server address:
https://moneyheap.ai/mcp. - Claude opens moneyheap’s consent page. Sign in if you aren’t already, check what the app is asking for, and click Allow.
Claude returns to the chat with the connector listed. You may need to turn it on for a conversation from the tools menu in the message box.
How do you connect ChatGPT?
In ChatGPT, turn on Developer mode, create an app with moneyheap’s server address, then sign in to moneyheap and click Allow.
- Open Settings, then Apps, then Advanced settings.
- Turn on Developer mode and create an app.
- Paste the server address:
https://moneyheap.ai/mcp. - Sign in to moneyheap on the consent page and click Allow.
How do you connect Claude Code or Codex?
Both take one terminal command to add the server and one step to sign in.
For Claude Code:
claude mcp add --transport http moneyheap https://moneyheap.ai/mcp
Then type /mcp inside Claude Code, pick moneyheap, and sign in to moneyheap in the browser window that opens.
For Codex:
codex mcp add moneyheap --url https://moneyheap.ai/mcp
codex mcp login moneyheap
The login command opens the same consent page in your browser.
What happens when you click Allow?
The app gets a short-lived access token that lets it call the five read-only tools for your account, and a refresh token that keeps it connected. You can see and revoke the connection at any time in Settings.
Here is the flow, in the order it happens:
- The app finds the server’s sign-in details. Its first call to
/mcpis refused with a pointer to the server’s OAuth metadata, the standard way an MCP server says “sign in first”. - The app identifies itself. Either it points to a metadata document hosted on its own domain, or it registers itself on the spot. When the app’s domain is confirmed this way, the consent page shows “Published by” and the domain. When it can’t be confirmed, the page shows a warning and the address it will send you back to, so only continue if you started the connection yourself.
- You approve. The consent page lists what the app will be able to do: see the assets in your portfolio, and read moneyheap’s analysis, sentiment history and market news. It also states what it can’t do: change your portfolio or your account.
- The app gets tokens. moneyheap uses OAuth 2.1 with PKCE, a check that stops a stolen sign-in code from being used by anyone else. The access token lasts one hour. The refresh token lasts 60 days and is replaced every time it is used, so an app you use regularly stays connected without asking you again.
- Your plan is checked on every request. Each tool call and each token refresh checks that you are still on Pro, so if your subscription ends, the app loses access with it.
moneyheap stores sign-in codes and tokens only as hashes, so a copy of the database wouldn’t reveal working tokens. To disconnect, open Settings, go to Connected apps, and click Disconnect next to the app. That deletes the connection and all of its tokens at once.
You’ll see the consent page again only if you disconnect, if the app loses its tokens, or if you don’t use the app for 60 days.
What can you ask once it’s connected?
Ask in plain language. Claude decides which tool to call. These prompts work well:
- “Go through my moneyheap portfolio and tell me which assets had the biggest change in sentiment since their last analysis.” Claude calls
list_portfolio, thenget_sentiment_historyfor the assets that look interesting. - “Why is moneyheap’s short-term read on NVDA different from its long-term read? Quote the reasoning and the confidence for each.” This uses
get_asset_analysis. moneyheap’s public NVDA page shows the same summary and news, and links to the sentiment per horizon in the app. - “Which high-impact stories from today touch anything in my portfolio?” Claude combines
get_market_newswithlist_portfolio. The same stories feed Market Stories in the app. - “Summarize the news behind the latest analysis of MSFT and link the sources.”
- “What stood out in the market today, and what is the case against today’s Daily Standout?” Claude calls
get_daily_editionand quotes the evidence on both sides.
Two habits make the answers more useful. Ask Claude to state when each analysis was made (analyzedAt), because a read from yesterday morning may miss today’s news. And ask for the confidence next to every sentiment score, so a low-confidence read isn’t treated like a firm one.
Tickers with a dot, such as BAYN.DE, work as typed. The server also accepts the dashed form moneyheap uses internally (bayn-de).
What if something doesn’t work?
Most problems come from the plan, the email check, or an expired request. The message on the consent page or in the tool response usually names the cause.
- “Connecting AI apps is part of moneyheap Pro.” Upgrade on the pricing page (the consent page’s “See Pro plans” button opens it in a new tab), then go back to the consent page and click Allow. If an app that used to work reports that it needs a moneyheap Pro plan, your subscription has ended; once it is active again, you may need to connect again from the app.
- “Confirm your email address before connecting an app.” Use the link in the confirmation email, then try again.
- “This connection request has expired.” A request is valid for 10 minutes. Start connecting again from your AI app.
- “moneyheap has no analysis for X yet.” Add the ticker to your portfolio in moneyheap; the analysis starts there.
- Testing with curl and getting “Method not allowed”. The endpoint accepts only POST requests with a valid token. There are no long-lived sessions or server-sent streams.
Frequently asked questions
Is the moneyheap MCP server read-only?
Yes. All five tools only read data, and the only permission an app can ask for is reading your portfolio and moneyheap’s analysis of it. No tool can add or remove assets, change settings or touch billing.
Does it give Claude real-time stock prices?
No. It returns moneyheap’s analysis, with the time each analysis was made, plus analyzed news. For live quotes, connect a market data provider’s MCP server alongside it.
Can I connect more than one app?
Yes. Each app gets its own connection, listed separately under Connected apps with when it was connected and last used. Disconnecting one doesn’t affect the others.
Will other MCP clients work?
Any client that supports remote MCP servers over HTTP with OAuth sign-in should work, including ones that register themselves dynamically. The setup page has tested steps for Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code and Codex.
Is what Claude tells me financial advice?
No. moneyheap’s output is market research: what changed, why it may matter and how confident the analysis is. The server tells the AI app to present it that way, but AI apps can still phrase things loosely, so treat any answer as one input to your own research.
How we wrote this
This guide is based on moneyheap’s MCP server code, its OAuth setup and the in-app setup and consent pages, first written on 2 November 2026 and last checked on 6 November 2026. The menu labels for each AI app are the ones on moneyheap’s Connected apps page; Claude, ChatGPT and the coding tools change their settings screens from time to time, so if a label differs, look for “custom connector”, “apps” or “MCP”. If you want to know how the analysis itself is produced, read moneyheap’s methodology. For how the Daily Standout is researched each weekday morning, see how the Daily Standout research agent works.
